Updates from the Last Chance to Paint team

Writer's pictureJohn Dyer

Today’s painting is of the Penan village of Long Iman

After visiting the amazing bat cave (Deer cave) at Mulu, I returned to base and spent the afternoon painting my experience of visiting the long house at the Penan village of Long Iman.

We arrived at the village by motorised canoe and headed straight to the long house. This is the narrative in my painting with the Penan people on the boat being greeted by the Penan people in the village.

The humid weather conjured up a yellow sky in my mind and the hills of rainforest create the backdrop for the painting.

The amazing long house is offset so we can imagine it going on to the right as far as we can imagine!

Palms, banana plants and butterflies complete the painting and the great egret I spotted on the river just had to go in.

Hope you like it!

John.
