Day 2 – Canoe ride to Mutum

Day 2 – Canoe ride to Mutum

Day 2

Our blog today is about the final leg of our journey until our arrival at Mutum village, home of the Yawanawá people.

Today we were met at our hotel by a police man called Alvino – our driver for the morning – and Nixiwaka Yawanawá – our contact and friend from Mutum. Then after a brief café pit stop, which was an adventure in itself, we set off on a 2hr car journey to Sao Vicente Bridge where we were to meet our boat.

On the journey we learnt lots of things about tribal life and about the rainforest which we are excited to share with you in following blogs.

In Sao Vicente we were able to grab a meal of Rice, Beans and Pasta which was very nice and really helped getting us through our boat ride.

On the boat we travelled 7hrs south on the Rio Gregorió which was a long time to travel in a boat with the loudest engine in the world – we couldn’t even talk to each other! Along the way we saw so may interesting things including tribal people, villages, 100’s of butterfly’s, many birds and so much rainforest!

Unfortunately our video blog today won’t be able to go live until later in the day or tomorrow as we arrived at Mutum in the dark, meaning we weren’t able to set up the satellite in time.

Hopefully you can all look forward to seeing our last bit of travel soon and we will keep you updated with our adventure with blogs in the mean time!
